TMMC Celebrates Centennial Year — 2024

In the spring of 1924, a group of four women got together to begin what would later become the Thursday Morning Music Club. In 2024, we are celebrating this wonderful achievement in various ways throughout the year:

  • Music at First will host a February 18 event co-sponsored with TMMC to celebrate our 100th Anniversary

  • TMMC is gathering the recollections of, or about, several past scholarship winners about their award experience and life in music since then. See the Scholarship Vignettes in the Stories tab. For a list of some past scholarship winners, click here.

  • TMMC Historian Linda Pyle interviewed 2001 Scholarship winner William Hueholt after his performance at UNCW’s Beckwith Hall in November, 2023. A recording of this interview will be played at the May Luncheon.

  • TMMC has recently implemented new options for individuals wishing to make larger, named scholarship donations.

The Music Club has brought untold joy to Wilmington since its inception, and it continues to do so. But, more than the enjoyment of listening to and performing music in the community, the Thursday Morning Music club was and is committed to supporting and furthering the education of exceptional classical music students through scholarships and grants. The public is invited to attend our meetings, and we hope you will consider joining us in support of Wilmington’s vibrant and talented music community.

- Elaine Gomperts, President
