TMMC Mourns Death of Member Marian Hills
TMMC members were saddened at the sudden death of member Marian Hills on October 10 after a brief illness. Here is the obituary that appeared in the Daily Memphian:
Marian Sue Heffernan Hills (August 23, 1938 - October 10, 2022) was preceded in death by her parents, George William and Marian Hardy Heffernan, and brother, George W. Heffernan. She is survived by her daughter Mary Alice (John) Hudson of Wilmington, NC and grandchildren, John (Kaylee) Hudson of Cary, NC and Marian (Shane Whittington) Hudson of Raleigh, NC. Marian was born and raised in Memphis, TN, graduating from St. Agnes Academy in 1956. She also lived many years in Nashville, TN, Washington, D.C., and Wilmington, NC.
Marian's work life included Memphis Bank and Trust, the Senate Office of Bill Brock (TN), the Gubernatorial Office of Lamar Alexander (TN) where she served as the Assistant Commission of Corrections and Warden of the TN Penitentiary for Women, the United States Department of Labor during the Reagan and Bush Administrations, and the Smithsonian Institution's National Portrait Gallery.
After retiring and moving to Wilmington, she filled her days with family, friends, and community. She moved to the Tangle Oaks community and joined the Wilmington Newcomers Club, where she created many lasting friendships. She became a Master Gardener and spent many hours volunteering at the New Hanover County Arboretum. She served as a docent for the Latimer House and the Cameron Art Museum. She played bridge and scrabble and joined a Salon that discussed a myriad of interesting and amazing things. She was a founding member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church, where she served on the Vestry and was chair of the Altar Guild. She loved the arts and immersed herself in the musical life of Wilmington, serving on the boards of the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra and the Thursday Morning Music Club.
She lived an amazing life filled with travel, music, service to her community, and many wonderful friends. She loved and was loved dearly.

The memorial service for Marian H. Hills will be held at Holy Cross Episcopal Church on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at 1pm.
